Audi Information

Audi is a German automobile company that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Originally seen as a conservative car maker, Audi began to change its image with the introduction of their “Quattro” four-wheel drive performance technology. With the intro of the Quattro they found great success in Rally Racing and became known as innovators in car technology. Since then, Audi has gone on to produce the successful A4 and A6 that are renowned for their luxury, make, and performance rivaling that of Mercedes Benz and BMW.

In Oct 2006 Audi announced that it had sold 684,700 vehicles worldwide in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 8.4 percent compared with the same period of the previous year and the best nine months in the company's history.

Two vehicles join the Audi lineup for 2008: the all-new luxury sports coupe, the A5, and the all-new sports car, the R8. Audi’s high performance super sports sedan, the 420-horsepower RS4, is offered in a new convertible version. The redesigned TT is available now as a coupe, and dimensions are slightly larger than the last generation.

German Vehicles: BMW vs. Mercedes Benz

By Matthew Keegan

German cars have long been recognized as some of the best engineered and most luxurious cars in the world. Two manufacturers, BMW and Mercedes, rule the roost with offerings from Audi, Porsche, and even Volkswagen getting some attention. Let’s take a look at some current offerings from these Bavarian giants and see how they are impacting the auto industry.
BMW – Give BMW credit for moving outside of the box by building a plant in South Carolina. Opened in 1994, the Spartanburg, SC plant has produced the Z3 – now Z4 – roadster as well as the X5 SAV. Seeking to become more of a world player, BMW has also purchased controlling interest in other automakers including Rolls-Royce and Rover during the 1990s. Later, BMW sold off the Rover and MG portions of Rover, but has kept the Mini brand.

BMW vehicles are well represented in the US. Coupes, sedans, convertibles, roadsters, and SUVs make up the American fleet with new cars at various stages of development being prepared for release.

Mercedes Benz – As part of the Daimler Chrysler fold, Mercedes Benz has been producing high quality automobiles for over a century. In 1998, seeking to expand its reach, Daimler Chrysler [DCX] bought out the Chrysler Corporation. Names such as Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, and Mopar became part of the DCX fold, although Plymouth was discontinued a few years later.
The Mercedes Benz name is synonymous with luxury vehicles and in the US the company is well represented by a host of sedans, coupes, convertibles, tall wagons, SUVs, roadsters, and other fine vehicles.

Owners of BMWs and Mercedes Benz do have some things in common: vehicle maintenance. As high end vehicles, the automakers are noted for equipping their cars with only the finest OEM parts. Well represented manufacturers used by both companies include: Bosch, Hella, Mahle, Textar, Brembo, Bilstein, Febi, SKF, and others. Most are German born and bred and are recognized the world over for producing the highest quality parts for auto manufacturers.
Replacement auto parts purchased through dealer parts departments are priced at a premium. When you take into consideration any tariffs, import fees, and third party mark ups, consumers can expect to pay a mint for each part. The growing internet wholesale market has been changing the paradigm lately as companies such as Car Parts Stuff are selling direct to consumers. The better online wholesalers have lowered costs significantly as overhead is low and they buy direct from leading manufacturers. This translates into real savings for you, the consumer.

When purchasing any parts for your luxury car, always determine that the parts you order meet or exceed OEM specifications. There are a lot of counterfeit parts on the market; shop wisely and you will get premium parts at low prices.

Auto Repair Littleton

Littleton is not the biggest community but when it comes to fixing your audi, mercedes, bmw, porsche, or volkswagen there are many places you can find who would like to take a shot at fixing your car. There are many dealerships that claim to have a great service center or auto repair center but the truth is the mechanics have no reason to care about your car. Your car becoms just another engine on the list for the day. I have found that your vehicle gets more care and attention if you take it to a smaller auto repair shop where the success of them fixing your car is important to get more business or referrals.

The hard part now is finding that trusted Littleton auto repair shop, right? Well I happen to have had some success with Autoworks Colorado in Littleton. It took me a few repair shops to find the best one, hopefully it won't take you as long. Autoworks Colorado in Littleton is a very professional auto repair shop and provided great service! They have got to have the cleanest shop in all of Denver and won't ever charge you for something that doens't need to be fixed.

What I like about Autoworks is the owner Mark Zallmanek is in the back working on all the cars too! He depends on getting referrals and every car that he gets into the shop matters to his paycheck. He runs a clean business and I would recommend Autoworks to anyone in the area!

I believe they specialize in Audi, BMW, mercedes, porsche, and volkswagen repairs.

Common Reasons you pay too much for Auto Repair

It's easy to blame the auto repair industry for excessive car repair prices, but sometimes these extra expenses are the customer's fault. Like a computer, if we supply incorrect data, we'll get garbage. For auto repairs bad data means unnecessary and/or excessive auto repair costs.
Here's a brief example to put things in to perspective.

A customer with a headlight issue assumed that his bulb was burnt out. He purchased a new bulb and brought it to his Denver repair shop to have it installed. The Littleton auto repair shop installed the bulb, and billed the client the appropriate labor. After installing the bulb, the light still didn't work. Who's at fault?

In this case, the client was forewarned that his particular vehicle has a Xenon head lamp system and that it should be diagnosed first, as it may be a tad more complicated than a bulb.

Nevertheless, the client requested the installation, and agreed to the labor charges. When the light still didn't work, the auto shop called the client to ask if he wanted to authorize an additional hour of labor ($110.00) to diagnose the headlight issue, and pay another $55.00 to remove the bulb and install the original bulb. As you can see, this customer quickly racked up a bill (including a $358 non-returnable Xenon bulb) and his light still didn't work.

This is merely one example of the very common "customer-diagnosed/supplied part" scenario.
It gets even more complicated when customers lie, mislead, or don't provide all the facts. Now, a good auto technician won't proceed until he is clear on the client's exact issue and can reproduce the complaint. For now, let's focus on what the customer does wrong.

Top 5 Mistakes:

1) Diagnosing the problem rather than explaining the symptoms. As in the example above, the client assumed his headlight was burnt out - a $523 mistake. If you find a good Littleton auto repair shop, you will be able to put your trust in the mechanics. You shouldn't feel like you should address the problem, let them do it-thats their job.

2) Supplying your own parts. The auto repair shop installing your part has no obligation to rectify the situation or supply any type of guarantee if the part fails. Here's a real life example: customer supplied a used alternator. Shop installed it, but the used part didn't work. The customer had to pay again to have a new alternator installed - a $250 mistake

3) Lying. This should be self-explanatory, but here's an example. A customer stated that his air-ride suspension lights kept intermittently flashing. After hours of diagnostics and testing it was revealed that the client's real issue was a minor suspension squeak - no dash lights had ever come on. It turned out that the client thought that if the mechanic checked the air-suspension computers and electronics that his vehicle would be more thoroughly evaluated - a $1,200 mistake

4) Suggesting unnecessary work. This may sound strange coming from the customer, but it happens. Some Denver auto repair customers will blurt out "just tune it up" or, "change my oil" even when they know it isn't required at the time - these can be very costly mistakes - 100's, even 1000's of dollars are lost this way to repair shops all too eager to take your money

5) Assuming your Denver auto repair shop will figure it out. This type of thinking is dangerous. Your auto repair shop needs your input because, despite any lack of automotive experience on your part, you know your vehicle better than any one. Here's an example: a man dropped his car off for what he called "a loud grinding noise." Despite the best efforts from a service advisor and technician, the noise could not be duplicated, nor could any other information be gleaned from the client as to the conditions under which the noise was heard. A road test with the client did not produce the noise either. Nevertheless, the client was adamant that something was dreadfully wrong and agreed to pay to have it checked out. After a $200 inspection, the vehicle was given a clean bill of health. The client paid and happily went on his way. Ten minutes later, he walked in screaming that the noise is so obvious you'd have to be deaf not to hear it. He jumped back in the car with the service manager, simultaneously, his cell phone went off (in vibrate mode), which he kept tucked between the seat and center console - what a "grinding" noise that made!

There are a number of other ways to pay too much, but if you can spare yourself from these 5, you'll be way ahead of the game. In short, don't diagnose your own car, and avoid supplying your own parts. Don't lie or mislead. Tell the truth even if it's embarrassing. I once had a woman tell me that her boyfriend shot her radio with a hand gun. Not only did this information help with the diagnosis, but also the extent and breadth of the damage.

Remember, don't suggest unnecessary work. Stick to your manufacturer's recommendations and play an active role in helping your repair facility diagnose that pesky grinding noise, or bullet-riddled radio.

The key to saving money on you Denver auto repair expenses is finding a good Denver auto repair shop. If you find a trusted mechanic, you will not feel like you have to lie, be embarrassed about situations, and your certainly won't feel like you have to diagnose your own car problems. Denver auto repair can be spendy, don't help it be more expensive-avoid these 5 typical things and find a good Denver auto repair shop.

Denver BMW auto repair

There are many Denver auto repair shops looking to get your business but there are only a select few that you want to trust your BMW with. Denver auto repair shops vary in size, experience, and reliablity so you want to make sure that you take your BMW to an auto repair shop that excells at all three categories.

Autoworks Colorado does just that! They have been working on BMW's for 30 years and specialize in German auto repair in Denver. They have a great shop in Littleton and are looking to expand soon.
Here is a picture of their shop, as you can see it is one of the cleanest auto repair shops in Denver!
Autoworks Colorado has 8 bays for any BMW makes and model. One thing I was impressed with was Mark the owner, personally called me and told me he recomended we should replace a water pump at the same time as they were servicing another part on my car. He told me that since everything was out it would be much cheaper to do it now than in 6 months. He also said it didn't have to be done at the time and it was up to me. It would need to be replaced in 6 months so we decided to just do it then. I couldn't believe I got a phone call instead of showing up with a much larger bill without having any knowledge of it. Autoworks Colorado is one of the most reliable denver auto repair shops in the area and I would strongly recommend them to anyone with a german import or BMW.

Murphy's Laws: (By: Matthew Wright)

  • Nothing is as easy as it looks.

  • Everything takes longer than you think.

  • Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

  • If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most
  • damage will be the one to go wrong. Corollary: If there is a worse time for something to go wrong, it will happen then.

  • You never run out of things that can go wrong.

  • If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway.

  • If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which a procedure can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop.

  • If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

How to Avoid Denver Repair Rip-offs

Let's face it, not everyone is as honest as we would like. What's more, those individuals who are in a position to have trust them blindly are often the ones to lie to us so boldly. Now, this isn't to say that everyone is a liar and a thief, but it pays to be cautious.

When it comes to Denver auto repairs, many new drivers or those inexperienced in dealing with garages will find the entire process frustrating and even confusing. Mechanics will often assume that drivers will know the components of their cars and how it all goes together. Doctors are often guilty of this as well. In most cases, the mechanic is not attempting to rip the vehicle owner off, to them it is common knowledge and sometimes they do forget that not everyone is as well versed as they are.

However, there are a hand full of unscrupulous Denver auto repair shops that uses such talk to their advantage. When you place your car in the care of a Denver repair shop you have no choice but to take their word as gospel concerning your car. After all, they are in a position of authority and are trained in car repair. Knowing this shady mechanics will use fast talk and technical terms to their advantage to charge you for items that you either did not need or that simply do not exist.

That is why having even a rudimentary knowledge about your car is so important. Many automobile types will have common ailments which you can easily search for online. Other car repairs are common for all types and are usually the result of the same problem. This way you can, hopefully, spot when an unscrupulous mechanic is trying to take you for a ride.
Being aware of you car's needs goes a step further when you enter that Denver repair shop. You must be precise when dealing with a mechanic in order to avoid any miscommunication.

Miscommunications do not point to rip offs but it should be avoided anyways. Many advise that you make out a detailed list of what you want repaired. This way the mechanic will fully understand what you want. In order to make sure that this list reaches the mechanics that will be working on your vehicle; you may want to tape the list on the steering wheel or the dashboard so that it is clearly visible. If you find a trusted Denver auto repair shop, this isn't always necessary. The idea is to find that auto repair shop where the communication is always there and they will give you a call to go over what they are about to repair on your car.

Before you authorize any work, at all, you should make certain that the mechanic is certified. The mechanic can be certified through either the dealer or through a special regulatory body which can vary state to state. Find out who this regulatory body is and what they require of their mechanics before you settle on a shop.

Afterwards, check out the Denver auto shop through organizations like the Better Business Bureau or some type of consumer affairs organization. If there were any complaints filed against the shop that may not necessarily mean that the shop is scamming its customers. However, if there are more then a couple and if these reports are of a severe quality then it would be wise to find another shop.

The important thing to remember as you search for a Denver auto repair shop is that not everyone is a crook. In such an industry as auto repair and car service a few bad apples really does spoil the bunch. Use caution and your gut to avoid rip offs and scams.

Denver Auto Repair

There are many Denver car dealerships out there that claim to have a great service departement but the problem is they charge so much more for labor than most smaller Denver car shops. I have had the best luck finding the smaller locally owned Denver auto repair shops where you and your car are important to the shop and they typically charge less than the dealerships and you get a better service.

If you have a German Car I would suggest going to Autoworks Colorado in Littleton. I service my BMW there and they are fantastic! They have the best Denver auto repair of imports in the whole metro area. They also have the cleanest shop I have seen and mechanics are great. The owner is there at all times and they won't work on your car without updating you the status of your car. Check them out at www.autorepairindenver.com

Porsche Covers

By Matthew Keegan

In owning a high quality roadster such as a Porsche Boxster you are making a statement that you value quality, engineering, speed, luxury, and reliability. Few cars can match all that a Boxster does in effectively combining an exhilarating sports car ride with a sensible price. Still, owning any Porsche is an investment and you must take care to protect that investment. A custom fitted car cover is something to consider to properly shield your Porsche.

After spending over sixty thousand dollars for your new Porsche, why is it that the one investment that can save you thousands of dollars is often overlooked? What I am talking about is a Porsche car cover. A car cover is a reasonably priced accessory that should be standard equipment for any vehicle. For only a few hundred dollars a custom fitted car cover will protect your car from:
Damaging rays of the sun. If you leave your car outside for any length of time, the sun’s rays will damage your car’s finish.

Harmful moisture. A high quality car cover will protect your car’s finish from moisture. Acid rain, sleet, snow, and hail can permanently damage your car.

Bird poop. You may not park your car under a tree, but the birds sure are attracted to its shine. Not getting to the poop soon enough can be costly to your paint.

Minor impacts. No, a car cover won’t protect your car in all circumstances, but a high quality cover is designed to absorb small impacts.

Nosey neighbors. You own a Boxster and everyone want to peer in and look at it…rubbing up against your car, scratching the finish, damaging the paint!

Insects. Who wants to see their car become home to every insect imaginable? With a custom fitted cover on your Porsche, bugs won’t zone in on something that isn’t hospitable to them.

Dust, dirt, air pollution. Even garaged cars can be damaged by dust.

You can talk to your local Porsche Auto Repair shop to help you find a good cover. You are going to want one that has a guarantee and some kind of warantee.

Best Porsche Auto Repair in Denver

I have a 911 Carrera S and I am pretty protective when it comes to getting it serviced. I was referred to Autoworks Colorado by a friend who also has a porsche. I was a little hesitant when I took it to get worked on. Once I arrived at the auto repair shop I had a completly different feeling. I could not get over how clean the shop was and I knew my Porsche would be taken care or.

It was totally worth the drive to go to this Littleton Auto Repair shop. I am completely convinced that they give the best Porsche Repair service in Denver. They had my car done the next day and serviced it at a quality price.

Another great thing about Autoworks colorado is they did not work on my car without calling me and telling me what was wrong with my Porsche and what they needed to do to it.

7 Tips when Purchasing a New Car

While we all like to think we won’t be conned when buying a used car, thousands of people are every single year. The majority of these people have bought their used car from one of the popular free ads papers and have known very little - if anything - about what to look for in a quality car. If you fall into this category, then simply follow the top seven car buying tips outlined below.

First of all, look out for signs that the car may have been involved in a serious accident. Points to watch out for include slight gaps between the body panels and car doors that drop or that fit badly on their hinges.

Always give the gearbox and clutch a thorough test. When doing this, make sure that you have the engine running then press down on the clutch. If there is any change in the sound of the engine then this could indicate the bearings are worn.

The gearstick should move smoothly without any “crunching” sound.

Make sure the brakes are in top order by breaking as firmly as you can without the car skidding. When you start up the car make sure the exhaust fumes are white - any other colour could indicate problems.

Check the panels to make sure there are no lose screws. If there are this could indicate that the odometer has been tampered with and the car has done more mileage than it states.

Finally, always go over the car’s paperwork thoroughly to make sure the history is correct. Generally the more history a car has the better off you are. You also may invest in a vehicle data check, a service which can instantly check your proposed new car’s history, including whether it has ever been stolen or involved in an accident or whether it has any outstanding finance on it etc. This may cost a little money at first but in the long run, it could save you time and future headaches.

Audi A4

The new Audi A4 is an impressive performance vehicle, particularly when equipped with the available quattro all-wheel-drive system, and it offers a luxurious interior with superior build quality and materials. Some auto reviews say that the new 08' Audi A4's solid performance and classy exterior design makes it a solid consideration amond upscale midsize sedans.

The A4's major competitor is BMW's 3 series which ranks amongst the highest in this class. Many people can't afford the 3 series and turn to audi's A4 as a substitute. For more on the Audi A4 review visit the full review.

How to Increase you Horsepower

Most people do not understand or realize the amount of power hidden inside their import car. Usually these cars are well tuned "out of the box" but there is still horsepower hidden under the hood you can get out with a little modification.

The first thing you can do is purchase an air intake. There are many different types of air intakes, the best thing is to do a little research online or ask a trusted auto mechanic. There short ram intakes, air cooled boxes, cold air intakes, etc. The most efficient and reliable air intake I thik is the Cold Air Intake. This alone adds about 5-7 horsepower depending on your vehicle. This part usually costs around $200 if you want a decent one. Whatever you do, don't buy into the cheap ones "on sale," you will be quite disappointed.

Now that your car is takin in more air, you also need to allow it to leave your car. Getting headers and exhaust gives you more backflow and increases the amount of air leaving your vehicle. Headers come in many different sizes and shapes. By installing headers you car will gain an additional 5-10 horses. Again make sure you buy quality parts, not cheap junky parts. This will usually run around $350 for strong welds. If you are experienced you can install it youself or have an experienced mechanic install it for you.

Exhaust is another critical part to increase the number of ponies you have under the hood. When purchasing an exhaust, it is very important to buy the whole system, not jus the muffler. This should run you around $500-$750 and will drive your horsepower up another 12 horses. Some good brands for exhaust systems are greddy, borla, and flowmaster. It again can be installed by anyone with car experience.

For just $1500 you can improve you horsepower by about 25-30 horses. This is enough to really notice a difference while you are out on the road.
